Teenage Human Trafficking Survivor Lives for Better Days Ahead

When Carol was young, her family lived near a military base where she was first sexually exploited by a soldier who lived there. As her childhood progressed she faced abuse at every level of society—her soccer coach, her teacher, her boyfriend and finally her pastor.

After all of this trauma, she met a man from the United States when she was 15 years old who promised her fame and fortune; paying her for abuse. Though twisted, she felt somewhat validated that she was at least receiving compensation for something that happened since she was little. But what started as a one-time thing, became months of being filmed to have sex with his American friends. She wanted to leave, but her traffickers had child pornography of her that they threatened to put on the internet if she told anyone to tried to run.

Carol was rescued a couple years later but still struggles with a lifetime of trauma. Her trafficker is going to trial soon in the United States and she lives knowing that many people still watch the videos that he created of her.

Because of your donations at Gifts of Grace, we have been able to help her future be a little brighter. Carol just scored a 97/100 on her recent English test. She’s getting much-needed trauma therapy. Most importantly, she is being recognized and treated sensitively by government officials and everyone else who is working with her case.
